Issues associated with definition of boundaries of water bodies

The issues to determine the surface water protection boundaries are examined. The approach to resolve these issues is proposed comprising the following: 1) the boundaries of the water protection zones are set along the outer range of the river floodplain, and 2) among the water bodies one should distinguish between the surface water bodies, underground water bodies and marshes, 3) the waterprotection areas should be set only around the surface water bodies. In marshes it is suggested to single out micro landscapes having active water and hydro chemical runoff inside which, similar to the water protectionzone of surface water bodies, it is required to set forth a special economic activity regime.

Calculation of filtration clarification efficiency in water suspencions having different dispersion phase stability

The paper outlines the method to calculate the efficiency of filtration clarification of low concentration suspensions having different stability of dispersion phase. The approach is based on ion electrostatic interaction of suspended particles with the surface of grains packed. The comparison of results of theoretical calculation with experimental data is given for clarification process model.

Physical and mathematical modeling of adsorption properties of peat to treat oil product polluted water

The article evaluates the methods to treat wastewater contaminated with oil products. The focus is placed on adsorption treatment technique based on using a natural sorbent peat. A mathematical model of the process was developed; the results of pilot studies are presented.

Microbial biosensors to express determine bod in effluents from food industry enterprises

The option to use biosensors as receptor elements to fast track evaluation BOD in effluents from the food production lines. Yeast cells of genus Arxula and bacteria Gluconobacter are proposed for the use in this capacity. It was found that both types of microorganisms feature high sensitivity to alcohols and sugars. BOD5 value obtained using standarddilution method coincided with BOD index provided by measuring samples using biosensor involving both types of microorganisms. It was shown that developed laboratory biosensor models can be effectively used for express BOD assessment in effluents in the food industry.

Synthesis of hydrogen peroxide in eleсtrochemically active solutions and its biological role

The method of enhanced chemiluminescence was used to determine the concentration of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in catolites and anolites having various ion composition. The mechanisms to form H2O2 are discussed together with its concentration kinetics. The stimulating effect of catolite in M9 medium was about 20-25%; it did not change after H2O2 catalase decomposition in catolite. Stimulating effect was absent when H2O2 was added into non-activated culture medium. H2O2 that is synthesized in M9 catolite does not bring about its biological activity.

Effective, ecology-friendly disinfectants. Paracetic acid: synthesis, properties and applications

The article provides the data on synthesis and application of aqueous solutions of peracetic acid (PAA). Mostly the paper deals with PAA stabilizers and the mechanism of their activity. The comparative analysis is given to effectiveness of various stabilizers; the kinetic parameters of the process to obtain PAA water solutions are addressed. They can be used in designing the industrial disinfectants based on PAA.
