Current hydrochemical description of Volga River and its reservoirs

In the research centre «Valaam 1» (Water Problems Institute of RAS) in summer 2009 there was carried out a field work that provides the basis for current hydrochemical description of the Volga River and its reservoirs. Fluctuation of hydrochemical parameters was measured from Konakovo up to Astrakhan port (the mouth area) in the period of summer low water level. Hydrochemical parameters trends for a long-term period were analyzed.

Snow cover contamination and its influence on the water quality

Snow cover contamination impact on water subject hydrochemical status was investigated by theoretical and practical studies. Data sources on snow cover analysis over four year period (2005-2009) are observed in the analytical review (chapter 1). Scheme of snow cover contamination study is suggested. In the snow cover of real water subjects a number of inorganic and organic compounds was detected (chapter 2). Estimation method of biological activity is developed for organic compounds.

Underground water conditioning in constant magnetic field. Theoretical issues

Underground water purification and conditioning issues are discussed. For biological and physical-chemical process acceleration there was made a theoretical study of constant magnetic fields usage. The results of the research are presented.

Enhancing of sewage purification technology

Self-regulated processes of separate treatment of acid and alkaline industrial wastes were developed, calcium carbonate and carbon dioxide being used as neutralizing and precipitating agents. Terms and conditions were formulated, technical equipment was tested.

Detection of dinoflagellate which are phylogenetically close to Pfiesteriaceae family in Baikal Lake

The Lake Baikal is an important source of drinking water. To maintain it pure it is important to get information about potentially pathogenic microorganisms. In presented work 14 fragments of 18S r DNA of dinoflagellate group were transcribed, the samples were taken from spring plankton and from body benthal filter-feeding organisms (sponges). According to phylogenetical analysis these paragraphs are intimate to Pfiesteriaceae family. Some representatives of this family are toxic, and are divided into two clades – plankton sequences belong to Peridinium aciculiferum species, and sponge sequences are referred to unknown before species.

Conformity assessment of water quality

Standard water quality measuring technique implicates measurement to a precision of absolute value of controlled quantity. In this case probability of measurement errors increases up to 50% as a result management decisions are made on the basis of uncertain results. New error consideration approach for settlement of controversial problems which are relevant to current market economy is developed.

Water quality control indexes for centralized water treatment plant

Negative aspects of natural organic compound contamination in drinking water were examined by literature data analysis. New approach for quality control indexes determination was suggested, which characterized safety of drinking water for exact water treatment plant of centralized water supply system. Indexes of secondary contaminants which are formed during water disinfection are described.
